Experiential Learning

ELC Story TimeAU student observation site
AU undergraduate and graduate students may observe children 18 months through 5 years in action at the ELC as required through course work. Located on the south side of the Garden City campus near the practice fields, the program is open Monday through Friday. Students may observe from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Employment and tuition remission opportunities
The ELC employs undergraduate students (work study and campus employment) and graduate assistants who work directly with children under the guidance and mentorship of professional staff.

Volunteer Opportunities
ELC administrators collaborate with campus clubs and organizations to offer children extra curricula activities or provide “hands on experience” to students working in a classroom setting to AU students.

Students interested in observing for a class assignment, applying for employment or volunteering may contact the Assistant Director, Kathy Lee, 516.877.3906 to set up an appointment.

Our students create and learn in beautiful ways.
