Laura Ludlam

Laura Ludlam is the Director of the Alice Brown Early Learning Center at Adelphi University. Laura has a master’s degree in Special Education and 25 years experience teaching and directing early childhood programs. Laura has taught early childhood education courses at SUNY Empire State College. Laura currently teaches and trains child-care providers for the Child Care Councils of Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and provides consultation for them on a variety of topics related to families and children. Laura’s interests includes reading, traveling, Broadway shows, and visiting her children.

Kathleen Lee

Kathy Lee
is the Assistant Director at the Alice Brown Early Learning Center. Kathy has been a classroom teacher for over 10 years, spent 8 years as a center director, and held the position of Infant Toddler Specialist at the Childcare Council of Nassau for 5 years before assuming her post at Adelphi. She continues to provide on-site lectures and training on a variety of subjects for childcare providers and their staff. Kathy’s interests include reading and spending time with her husband and family.

Jessica Artura

Jess Artura is a Team Co-Teacher in Pre K 1.  Jess graduated from Empire State College, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development with a concentration in Early Childhood Education.  Currently, Jess is attending graduate school at Adelphi University where she is pursuing her Master’s degree in Elementary and Inclusive Special Education.  Jess comes to us from a Montessori background, having worked for five years with children ranging from infant to kindergarten age. Her personal interests are walking, traveling, playing soccer, camping, and spending time with family and friends.

Andrea Caliguri

Andrea Caligiuri is a Team Teacher in Pre K 3.  Andrea has worked as a teacher at the ELC since 1985 and coordinated the kindergarten program from 1987 to 2011.  Andrea has a B.S. and M.A. from Adelphi University in Elementary Education and is New York State certified N-6. She completed the post Masters Certificate program in Parent Education and Guidance from the Adelphi Institute for Parenting in 2011.   Andrea also serves as an  adjunct instructor in the Ruth S. Ammon School of Education at Adelphi University. Andrea enjoys winter and summer sports with her two children, reading, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

Jennifer Chavanne headshot

Jennifer Chavanne is a Team Co-Teacher in Pre K 2. Jennifer received her Bachelor’s Degree in Childhood Education from The State University of New York College at Oneonta and is currently working on her Master’s in Inclusive Childhood Special Education at Adelphi University. Previously, Jennifer was a graduate assistant at the ELC before being offered the opportunity to become a member of the professional teaching team.  Jennifer has a passion for supporting children and helping to make a difference in their lives. She has over ten years working experience with children ranging in age from preschool to elementary age children. Her interests include spending time with her family and friends, reading, going to the beach, traveling, and exercising.

Megan Corbett

Megan Corbett is a Team Co-Teacher in Pre K 2.  Megan received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education at Adelphi University. She is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Special Education. While at Adelphi, Megan was a member and captain of the Cheerleading Team for four years. She was also a Mentor in the Mentor Program her senior year. Megan has a long history of working for the ELC from 2007-2007 as an undergraduate student teacher aide and  from 2007-2008 as a graduate assistant teacher; beginning her tenure as a full time teacher in 2008. Megan has a passion for the creative arts and loves to share this with the children in the class.

Stephanie York

Stephanie Foran is a Team Co-Teacher in the Toddler classroom. Stephanie has earned an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Psychology from Dowling College. Stephanie is currently attending Adelphi to pursue a Master’s Degree in Literacy. Stephanie has experience with children from infants to school age. Stephanie’s personal interests are reading, shopping, playing with her dog, and spending time with her family and friends.

Eva Gembarzewski

Eva Gembarzewski is the Team Assistant in Pre K 3. Eva has been working with toddlers and preschoolers for the past 15 years, and is currently studying Early Childhood Education at Adelphi University. Eva enjoys nature, music, art, and skiing with her family.

Gina Mauro

Gina Mauro is a Team Co-Teacher in Pre K 1.  Gina has a BA from Brooklyn College and a MS from Hofstra University in Elementary Education. She has a dual certification from NYS in Early Childhood (Birth-2nd grade) and Elementary Education (grades 1-6). She is currently enrolled in the Advanced Certificate Program at Adelphi for Early Childhood Special Education. Previously, Gina has taught in UPK programs both in Farmingdale and the Hewlett-Woodmere School Districts. Gina enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

Patricia Veigl Headshot

Patti Veigl is the Administrative Assistant at the Alice Brown Early Learning Center as of November 2009. Patti started her career at Adelphi University in the Athletic Department in 2007. Prior to that, Patti worked at  Sewanhaka School District as a Science Lab Assistant, One on One aid and as an administrative assistant  in the summer school program.  Patti is currently involved with various breast cancer organizations within AU and her community.   Patti enjoys all sports, reading and the beach.

Additional Staffing

Graduate Assistant—This is an unpaid tuition remission program for students who are completing their master’s degree in educational studies.

Student Employment—These Adelphi University students work varied shifts (around their college classes) helping in the classroom and supervising the children. These are registered Adelphi University students and after appropriate background checks and hiring documentation have been completed, are employed by the Center as teaching assistants.
