CaliguriAndrea Caligiuri
e –

Andrea Caligiuri is a long time early childhood teacher at Adelphi University, beginning her career with the program in 1985 under the leadership of Alice Brown. She served as the program’s Kindergarten coordinator from 1987 until 2011. Currently, she is part of the Pre K 3 Team and is the program’s Senior Support Staff, offering guidance and education related to early childhood social/emotional learning, issues in infant (0-5 years of age) mental health, and parent education. Andrea has a B.S. and M.A. from Adelphi University in Elementary Education and is New York State certified teacher for grades N-6. She completed the Post Masters Certificate program in Parent Education and Guidance from the Adelphi Institute for Parenting in 2011. In 2017 she completed the Adelphi Institute for Parenting’s two year Post Master’s Program in Parent-Infant Mental Health. Andrea received her Tier II Parent Educator Credentialing from the New York State Parent Education Partnership. Andrea is an advocate for parents and believes strongly in every family’s right to be supported and nurtured. Andrea is an avid gardener and reader, and enjoys spending time with her two children, family and friends.

Alexa Schwab

Alexa Schwab is a Team Co-Teacher in Pre K 2. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Art Education from Adelphi University. Previously, Alexa was an undergraduate student employee and a Graduate Assistant at the Early Learning Center before accepting the opportunity to become a member of the professional staff. She has a creative eye and strives to assist children in expressing themselves and their ideas in various artistic ways in all curricula domains. Alexa’s interests include drawing, photography, writing and spending time with family and friends.

JoanJoan Ferro

Joan Ferro is a Team Co-Teacher in the Pre K-2 classroom. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Trinity College and has twelve credits towards her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. She has experience working with three, four and five year olds, having taught for over five years in a cooperative nursery school located in Rockville Center. Joan enjoys playing tennis, taking long walks with friends, participating in a monthly book club and traveling to see wonders of other parts of the world.   

StephanieStephanie Foran

Stephanie Foran is a Co-Teacher in the Toddler Room at the Early Learning Center. Stephanie has been a co-teacher in the Toddler Room since 2008. Stephanie has an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Psychology which she received from Dowling College. Stephanie has been attending Adelphi University for her Master’s Degree. Stephanie has experience with children ranging from infants to school age, in various education settings. Stephanie enjoys, baking, traveling, reading, and spending time with her daughter, husband, dog, family and friends.

Christina Lau-Wang Christina Lau-Wang

Christina Lau-Wang is a Team Co-Teacher in the toddler classroom. She has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary and Special Education from Rowan University with a concentration in Reading. Christina is currently attending Adelphi to pursue a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Special Education. She has experience with children from toddler-age to kindergarten-age, having taught for the past five years in charter school and employer-sponsored child care settings. Christina’s personal interests are reading, running, cooking, volunteering and traveling with family and friends.

Eva GembarzewskiEva Gembarzewski

Eva Gembarzewski is a Team Co-Teacher in Pre K-3. She has worked at the ELC since 2008, initially in the toddler classroom, and, since 2012, in Pre K-3. Eva has earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science and Psychology, and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Special Education. She enjoys nature, music, reading and spending time with family and friends.

Gina MauroGina Mauro

Gina Mauro is a Team Co-Teacher in Pre K 1. She has a B.A. from Brooklyn College and an M.S. from Hofstra University in Elementary Education. Gina has a dual certification from NYS in Early Childhood (Birth-2nd grade) and Elementary Education (grades 1-6). She is currently enrolled in the Advanced Certificate Program at Adelphi for Early Childhood Special Education. Previously, Gina has taught in UPK programs both in Farmingdale and the Hewlett-Woodmere School Districts. She enjoys reading, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

Patricia Veigl HeadshotPatti Veigl

Patti Veigl is the Administrative Assistant at the Alice Brown Early Learning Center as of November 2009. She started her career at Adelphi University in the Athletic Department in 2007. Prior to that, Patti worked at Sewanhaka School District as a Science Lab Assistant, One-on-One aide and administrative assistant in the summer school program. Patti is currently involved with various breast cancer organizations within Adelphi and her community. She enjoys sports, reading and the beach.

Emily is a Team Co-Teacher in Pre K 2. She graduated from Molloy College, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Childhood Education with a concentration in Sociology. Emily comes to us from a Reggio Emilia early childhood program and has teaching experience ranging from Pre-K up to 2nd grade. Her personal interests are reading, going to the beach, horseback riding and spending time with her husband and her dog, Sandy.

Angela Wasserman
e –

Angela Wasserman is a Team Co-Teacher in Pre K 1. She graduated from Connecticut College with a double major in Sociology-based Human Relations and Italian. After working for five years in the public relations field, she earned her Master’s degree from Teachers College, Columbia University with a double major and dual certification from New York State in Early Childhood and Special Education (Birth-2nd grade). Angela comes to the ELC with eight years of teaching experience, primarily in Head Start and preschool programs. She has worked in both special education and general education settings and is a strong proponent of emergent curriculum and play-based, hands-on learning for young children. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, spending time with her family and tending to her garden.

Kathleen Comerford

Kathleen is a Team Co-Teacher in Pre K 1. She is a graduate of Barnard College with Bachelor’s degree in American Studies, and earned her Master’s degree from Teachers College, Columbia University in Curriculum and Teaching. A NYS dual-certified teacher in Early Childhood Education and Childhood Education, Kathleen comes to the ELC with ten years of teaching experience, ranging from Pre-K to Grade 2. Kathleen is currently pursuing an Advanced Certificate in Special Education. When she is not in the classroom, Kathleen enjoys spending time with her family, preferably at the beach, reading and traveling.

 Additional Staffing

Graduate Assistant—This is an unpaid tuition remission program for students who are completing their master’s degree in educational studies.

Student Employment—These Adelphi University students work varied shifts (around their college classes) helping in the classroom and supervising the children. These are registered Adelphi University students and after appropriate background checks and hiring documentation have been completed, are employed by the Center as teaching assistants.
